The Salvation Army’s volunteers serve in a variety of roles from teaching computer courses at our Kroc Center Senior’s Lounge to serving meals in our Soup Kitchen to responding to disasters across the country. Types of Volunteers
The Salvation Army of Augusta utilizes a variety of volunteers in providing services for the community. These volunteers range from individuals to groups who assist with both one-day projects and events, as well as long-term programs. Every year, hundreds of busy individuals volunteer with The Salvation Army through Individual Volunteer Opportunities. These opportunities don’t require a long-term commitment and are great for busy families and professionals who find that they simply want to give back a few days each year.
A few of the projects our individual volunteers assist with each year include:

To see a full list of opportunities, volunteers should register as an individual through the online portal. Each individual should register separately, including youth who plan to serve with a parent or guardian. Looking for a program to volunteer with on a regular basis? The long-term volunteer program might be the right fit for you.
Long-term volunteers are committed to assisting on a weekly basis for at least a six (6)-month period with one of The Salvation Army’s many programs and departments. Their commitment helps The Salvation Army staff expand their services to our customers and clients, and often lend support in developing new ideas for programs and activities.
Long-term volunteers help with a variety of tasks including:
- Assisting with family store donations
- Using professional knowledge to teach skills
- Supporting sports leagues
- Clerical and customer service support
- Visiting one-on-one and leading tours
- And much more!
Individuals who are interested in becoming a long-term volunteer should complete an online profile using the online portal. This interest form gives the volunteer the opportunity to express specific interests, availability, skills and experiences. When you are matched to a volunteer need, the Volunteer Coordinator will contact you. If the opportunity is a good fit, the Volunteer Coordinator will assist you in completing the necessary paperwork, references and background check. We want volunteers to feel comfortable and confident in their volunteer role, so all long-term volunteers must be willing to complete a one-hour online training, and a one-hour volunteer orientation. Additional training may be required based on the volunteer role.
Often The Salvation Army needs a team of individuals to assist with projects for groups both large and small. Many of the projects call for adults, while others are perfect for youth organizations and schools. Businesses, church-groups, leadership classes, civic organizations and schools can all participate in The Salvation Army’s Group Volunteer opportunities.

What can volunteers do?
There are countless ways that volunteers can make an impact in the community through The Salvation Army of Augusta. Popular volunteer programs include the Soup Kitchen, Family Store group projects, Bell Ringing at Christmas and assisting with our Christmas warehouse. How old do I have to be to volunteer?
At The Salvation Army of Augusta there are many opportunities for children and youth to serve, however some opportunities are restricted to those 18 years of age or older. All minors must have a volunteer release signed granting them permission from a parent or guardian to participate, and in most instances, must also be supervised by a parent or guardian.
Popular volunteer opportunities for families and youth groups include; the Soup Kitchen (9 years +), Bell Ringing at the Red Kettle (all ages) and group projects such as the Food Pantry Pack (11 years +).
Why should I consider volunteering?
Volunteering is a great way to connect with your community and create an impact. Volunteering for just a few hours can make a huge difference in the lives of those who need help most while helping expand services.
Volunteering has the added benefit of helping you to develop better interpersonal skills, communication skills and the ability to see other’s viewpoints. Through working with diverse groups of individuals you might otherwise never interact.
Can I complete more than one profile?
Absolutely! If you are interested in serving at an event, and are also interested in becoming a long-term volunteer, please complete both profiles. You have the opportunity at the beginning of each registration to link your information to any profile already completed by indicating that you already have a username and password.
Where do I log into my online profile?
Once completed, you can visit myvolunteerpage.com to access your profile. When completing your profile remember your user name and passwords, so you can log-in to access opportunity information and update your profile information as needed. If you ever forget your user name and password, you can use the log-in retrieval tool on myvolunteerpage.com.
Register today by visiting bit.do/serveaugusta. Once your application is approved, you will receive a confirmation e-mail prompting you to log-in to your profile and schedule your shifts.
There are a limited number of openings for each shift and all spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Community Service Workers must be 18 or older.
Individuals who need to complete community service hours for the Housing Authority; a court-mandated program such as probation or PTI; TANF; or other government programs should go through The Salvation Army of Augusta’s Community Service Program, which is separate from the Volunteer Program.
Community service is available only to those who are 18 and older. Shifts are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis; walk-ins are not accepted at all locations except the Thomson Family Store.
